Jan van Ravenswaay (1789 – 1869) was a 19th-century landscape painter from the Northern Netherlands. He was born in the town of Hilversum
He was the son of a cotton mill owner in Hilversum. He studied drawing with Jordanus Hoorn in Amstersfoort, before following lessons from Pieter Gerardus van Os. He traveled in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland before becoming a member of the Royal Academy of Art in Amsterdam. He won an honorable mention for a landscape in a competition at Felix Meritis in 1818. In 1832 he became a member of the artist society Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam.

Jan van Ravenswaay (1789 – 1869) was a 19th-century landscape painter from the Northern Netherlands. Ravenwaay was born in Hilversum and the son of a cotton mill owner. After studying drawing with Jordanus Hoorn in Amersfoort, he was apprenticed to the painter and engraver Pieter Gerardus van Os. He traveled to Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, before he was appointed member of the Royal Academy of Art in Amsterdam. He received an hono-rable mention for a landscape in a competition at Felix Meritis in 1818. In 1832 Jan became a member of the artist society Arti Sacrum in Rotterdam. He has had exhibitions in Haarlem, Amsterdam, The Hague and Leeuwarden. His work is included at the Rijksmuseum and Mu-seum Fodor in Amsterdam, Teylers Museum Haarlem, Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller Otterlo, Goois Museum Hilversum, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam.
