- Über KünstlerGeorges-Charles Dufresne was a French painter, engraver, sculptor and decorator. He enrolled at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He was mostly attracted to painting and began making pastels in the manner of Toulouse-Lautrex. His first exhibition was as the Salon of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1903. In 1910, he went to Algiers for two years where he turned to oil paint. Upon returning, he painted numerous Orientalist works. After the World War I, he painted some Cubist scenes of the war. He designed sets for the ballet of the Opéra de Paris in 1921 and two years later was one of the founders of the Salon des Tuileries. In that period, he created tapestry designs using new weaving techniques, presented at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in 1925. He also was a teacher at the Académie Scandinave and in the years before his death created more tapestry designs, painted decorations and murals. A retrospective of his work was presented at the Venice Biennale shortly after his death.
