About the independent artist
Reinder Ourensma (1952) lives and works in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. He developed his love for figurative work during his studies at the Minerva Academy (1968 – 1972). A place where he was inspired and motivated at a young age by teachers in new realism at a time when abstraction was fashionable. While he worked as an art teacher throughout his life from 1972 onwards, he continued to develop as an artist in his spare time and in relative anonymity. Since 2014, Reinder has been working full-time as a visual artist. For more than thirty years now, he has focused on the surprisingly unspoiled, rugged and tranquil Irish landscapes. In 2009 he won the 1st prize in Painting at the Florence Biennale in Italy. And since 2012, his work has been presented at Sol Art Gallery in Dublin, Ireland.
