About the artist
Born in 1975, Andreas studied Photography in Düsseldorf and looks back on a successful career as professional photographer in advertising. His artistic works have been exhibited and collected mostly in Europe.
At first sight Andreas Zimmermann’s photography seems to depict urban landscapes created out of children’s toy building blocks. The photographs of these Lego sceneries are digitally assembled to larger urban landscapes. Modular systems like Lego rely on standardisation, yet offering the freedom of creation. Similar to an economy ruled by division of labor they optimize overall efficiencies.
Andreas’ images lure the eye into details and at the same time seem to request for an overview. Like ambiguous images they provide multiple per-ceptions: order clashes with play, an obsession with detail meets its liberation.
