About the artist

Charles Ernest Clerget (1812, Paris – 1870) was an artist, engraver and lithographer. His works were influenced by Islamic styles. His 'Mélanges d’ornements de tous les styles Persan – Arabe – Grec – Gothique – Renaissance (Paris, 1837-1838)' displays a wide variety of styles, primarily of the 16th and 17th centuries, described as Persian, Moorish, arabesque, Greek, gothic and renaissance.

Along with other artists he illustrated a work of ornaments, titled 'Ornements tirés de quatre écoles' (Paris, 1836-1846, 2 vols.). He also wrote and illustrated (with drawings and engravings) 'Recueils d’ornements' (Paris, 1838, 2 vols.).
