About the artist
Charles Weddepohl, a Dutch sculptor and painter, was born in Amsterdam on December 7, 1902. As a fourteen-year old, he studied at the Quellinus Arts and Crafts school in Amsterdam, specializing in decorative drawing.
In 1920 he applied as an artist at the Heijstee-Smit & Co. firm. In 1924 he was accepted at the National Art Academy in Amsterdam, where he concentrated on painting techniques. After his graduation in 1927 Weddepohl obtained his own studio in Amsterdam. In the 1930’s he started to focus on sculpture. He passed away at the age of 73, in 1976, on June 26th.
