About the artist
Christiaan van der Klaauw is a Dutch watch brand specialized in making technically advanced and luxury watches.
The Frisian clock technician Christiaan van der Klaauw started a workshop in Heerenveen in which he repaired antique clocks. From 1974 he also started as a designer and maker of clocks. In 1989 he joined the AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants), an international guild of clock and watch builders with several dozen members.
In 1992, he presented the world's first wristwatch at the Basel Watch Fair with a complete planetarium built into it. The watch was unique in the world and established the name of the builder. From 1994 onwards he therefore decided to focus exclusively on the production of wristwatches.
Almost every model from this watch brand has a relationship with astronomy. Many watches contain special functions such as the position of the moon, sun, stars and planets or the indication of the day, date, month, year or season. The timepieces also often have a classic appearance. All watches are produced in limited editions and are handmade.
