About the artist

Derk Wiggers was a Dutch painter, etcher and watercolour artist born in Amersfoort, The Netherlands in 1866. Although he attended the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, he was primarily self-taught. Wiggers lived in Kralingen (Rotterdam), Heelsum, Berg en Dal, Blaricum and for 6 years in the Belgian town Ukkel.

He painted still life works and landscape scenes, with a fondness for river landscapes and farm houses. His artistic style sees similarities with the Hague School and Impressionism in his later works. His travels throughout Italy and Spain also influenced aspects of his work. Wiggers was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, The Rotterdam Art Circle and Pulchri studio in The Hague. He died in IJsselstein in 1933, at the age of 66.
