About the artist

Franz was a Dutch painter who worked in the style of the Hague School and tended to impressionism later in his career. He attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. He mainly worked in Delft, The Hague and often painted en plein air in the south of the Netherlands. Initially influenced by Jacob Maris, Helfferich painted landscapes in the style of the Hague School. After his impressionist phase he even produced neo-impressionist landscapes. He was a member of art association the Haagse Kunstkring and teached at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. His work gained popularity after his death.
