Geert van Fastenhout (1935 - 2016) attended the National Academy of Visual Arts and the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam, as well as the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.

He initially worked in a figurative style, but since the early 1970s, in his own unique way, within the tradition of geometric abstraction.

His symmetrical compositions are made up of several rectangular color boxes and lines in subtle shades of color.

His colors each have their own saturation and texture. Matte, rather dark colors are contrasted with shiny blue color tones and create a fascinating light effect. Hermetic black, heavenly blue, red-brown or brick-red, matte or shiny, a world of emotions glows beneath the skin.

These dark tones appear to give the work a spatial mystery. The effect of the painting consists of the transition from the concealing to the revealing and back again. The beauty of the work is clear and subtle.
