About the artist

Georges Stein (1877-1955) was a French artist who was specialized in street scenes of Paris, London and Nice, perfectly capturing the elegant fin-de-siècle atmosphere. He was skillful in depicting mounted riders, carriages and fashionable young ladies. Among his favourite painting locations in Paris were Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Île de la Cité and the Grands Boulevards. Stein's oil paintings and water colours give a sense of movement and nonchalance. There is some confusion as to the gender of Stein. While the Benezit Dictionary and L'Éventail refer to Stein as male, some gallery websites describe Stein as a female painter.
