Hendrik Wiegersma (1891–1969) was a versatile Dutch artist, draftsman, and physician who holds a special place within Dutch Expressionism. Although he worked as a general practitioner in Deurne, Brabant, throughout his life, he also gained great renown as a painter with a powerful, entirely unique visual language.

His work is characterized by expressive forms, intense colors, and a direct, emotional approach to people and landscapes. Inspired by Expressionism, Wiegersma captured Brabant life in portraits, still lifes, and landscapes in which feeling and character were more important than a realistic representation. His paintings radiate a striking energy and authenticity and are considered among the most important contributions to Dutch Expressionism of the twentieth century.

In addition to his artistic significance, Wiegersma played an important cultural role. His house in Deurne became a meeting place for artists, writers, and intellectuals. His distinctive personality and life served as a source of inspiration for various literary works and musical narratives, allowing his influence to extend far beyond painting. Today, Hendrik Wiegersma is remembered as an exceptional figure who managed to connect science, art, and culture in a unique way. His oeuvre remains appreciated for its expressive power, human depth, and strong connection to the Brabant landscape and life.
