Read moreHerman Kolker is a Dutch painter who paints in the style of the ‘Noordelijk realisme’, a form of Realism that arose in the north of the Netherlands in the 20th century, under the influence of Art Academy Minerva in Groningen, where Kolker was trained as a painter. Kolker is a member of the artist association the Drents Schildergenootschap. He specialises in paintings of the landscapes of Drenthe and Groningen, northern provinces of the Netherlands; in their peat bog, dikes and open fields with characteristic colours, skies, structures and lights. He abstracts the landscapes until only the elementary remains. He paints his oil paintings with a fine paintbrush. The vertical element is often missing in his landscapes; the horizontal dominates. The absence of a horizon makes his landscapes seem endless.
