About the artist

Joop Kropff (1892, The Hague - 1979, Delft) was a Dutch painter, aquarellist, pastellist, draughtsman, pen draughtsman, etcher and lithographer. He created still lifes, portraits, figures, cityscapes, beach scenes, harbour views, nudes, abstracts. He studied drawing at The Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in The Hague. As a painter, he was an autodidact. He was a member of the Teekengenootschap Pictura in Dordrecht, and Pulchri Studio in The Hague. He also joined various artists movements: Verve, Fugare , the Haagse Kunstkring, the Posthoorn Group. He was a teacher at the Teeken- en Schilderacademie (Academy of Drawing and Painting) Ars Aemula Naturae in Leiden.
