About the artist

Kazimir Malevich was born in 1879 near the city of Kiev. He was the founder of the artistic and philosophical movement of the school of Suprematism. His theory about forms and meaning in art would constitute the theoretical base of non-objective abstract art. The painter worked in a great variaty of styles, but his most important works concentrated on the exploration of purely geometric shapes and the relationship they have to each other within the pictoral space. Because of connections to the West, Malevich was able to transmin theory of painting to fellow artists in Europe and the United States. He was a big influence on the evolution of modern art because of this. Malevich died in 1935.
