About the artist
Nicolaas Petrus Quirinus (Nico) van Rijn was a Dutch painter and draftsman. He went to the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague from 1911 to 1913. His early works were in the Impressionist style. Later on, he was inspired by Expressionism. Van Rijn has lived in a monastery and was in a mental hospital for eleven years of his life. He painted flower pieces, interiors, landscapes and portraits. He was inspired by Van Gogh, Pointillism, and the early works of Mondriaan.
