About the artist
After about ten years of searching and experimenting with styles, a long stay in Brittany brought the Nijmegen artist to the old masters.
Van Ernich decided to work in the style he admired, the style of the Masters of the 17th century. A visit to Cornelis le Mair subsequently inspired him enormously. Painting together and discussing the work eventually even led to a beautiful collegial friendship that continues to this day.
In all his work Paul plays with light. He brings a theatrical atmosphere to the paintings. This makes every painting a story. Rembrandt and Caravaggio serve as great examples.
Seen from a distance, very realistic, almost real. Up close, the paint shows itself with visible brush strokes and tasty white highlights.
In recent years, Paul has been captivated by flowers. From 17th-century flower still lifes he evolved into his own unique view of individual flowers.
Magnified against a dark background, the flowers come to life and appear as a personality. Characteristic and powerful.
