About the artist

Paula Evers was born in 1942 in Bergen, North Holland. Bergen is famous for its artists' colony – the Bergen School. Paula studied at the Van Gogh Academy in Amsterdam.

Paula is an intuitive painter. She works and processes from feeling. Nothing is planned in advance. Everything depends on her emotion and mood at the time. Her paintings are gradually created. Her hands possess all the technical skills necessary to make painting take place as a meditation.

Paula's paintings are manifested through colour. Especially in autumn, Paula is fed by the numerous and different colors that this season exhibits. This expresses her love for warm colors of earthy and natural tones and the passionate handling of their carrier on canvas, the paint.

She paints both figurative and abstract. She herself describes her work as lyrically abstract. The term “lyrical” directly expresses an emotional state of being.

The figures that Paula paints are without facial features. The contours are only indications of figures. Their abstract environment is an undefined space that frames them.

In her work, stories take place between people, with whom the viewer can identify. This makes her work accessible and has a great attraction for almost every spectator.

For her abstract work, Paula often uses material that gives her work a striking skin, so to speak. The paint she then applies over it accentuates the shapes of the material and thus directs the final composition. Her paintings suck you into their space and then you can wander around endlessly and there is a lot to discover.
