About the artist
Sonja Brussen is a Dutch contemporary artist who was born in Gaanderen in 1974. She paints in nature after nature. She studied at the ArteZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (ArteZ Academy of Arts). Her work is characterised by solid bold brushstrokes. Since her childhood nature has always fascinated here. Since 1998 she works as a full-time professional artist, from the small town Lochem in the east of the Netherlands. With an impressionist touch, she makes paintings with a unique character, en ‘Plein air’. There is an increasing interest in Sonja's work from leading galleries in the Netherlands and she has lots of followers. In 2013 she won the 2013 Art in the Open contest in Ireland. In 2015 she was nominated at the Noordwijk Painting Festival and in 2016 she won the Royal Talens Rembrandt Painting Award. Since 2016 she is a member of the Dutch Association of Sea painters.
