About the artist

Walter Vaes was born in Borgerhout in 1882. He died in Antwerpen in 1958. Vaes was a Flemish painter, aquarellist, draughtsman and graphic designer. He studied at the Academy of Antwerp where he later became a teacher. His subjects were still lifes, flower pieces, portraits and cityscapes. He painted in an impressionist style. He fled to Veere during the First World War (except 1917) and returned to Belgium in 1920. His work is included in the museums of Antwerp, Ghent, Liège and St. Niklaas.
