- About the artworkJoseph Molten was born in 1746 in Bern, Switzerland, as Giuseppe Moltono. Around 1765 he moved to Amsterdam and began a shop in barometers on the corner of the NZ Voorburgwal and the Lijnbaanssteeg.

Dutch private Collection - About the artistJoseph Molten (1764, Bern), Italian name Giuseppe Molteno, was a clock and barometer maker, born in Switzerland. He died after 1790. He moved to Amsterdam around 1765, where he began a shop in barometers on the corner of the NZ Voorburgwal and the Lijnbaanssteeg. He was married and had two sons. A number of his barometers are in the Louis XV style (ca. 1740 – 1770).
