  • About the artwork
    The dial
The 9-cm wide enamel dial has Roman numerals for the hours and inner Arabic numerals for the date. The ormolu hands are engraved and pierced. The date is indicated by a steel pointer.

    The movement
The movement is driven by two spring barrels and has a duration of eight days. It is regulated by an anchor escapement in combination with a silk suspended pendulum. It strikes the hours and half hours on a bell by means of a count wheel.

    The case
The rectangular bronze case with stepped top is surmounted by a reclining lion. The front is embellished by ormolu leaves around the finely engraved bezel. To the sides there are ormolu mounts incorporating a vase with flowers and further leaves. The base is supported by two sfinxes at the front and two feet at the back. The whole is placed on a break front plinth raised on turned and engraved feet.
