- About the artworkCornelis Christiaan Dommelshuizen was a real globetrotter, living and working not only in his native Holland but also in Belgium, France, Great Britain and the United States. Specialised in painting marine landscapes and historical townscapes, his artistic talent was evident from an early age. After the death of their mother, Cornelis Christiaan and his brother Pieter Cornelis, also a gifted and successful painter, moved to England, probably in 1861, where they were in high demand. He used varying signatures, including ‘C.C. Dommershuizen’ and ‘Dommelshuizen’.
