Jan Engelchor was a painter and sculptor. He followed the Rijksakademie van Beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) Amsterdam. In 1946, he was awarded the Cohen Gosschalk Prize. Lived in Paris with his wife (sculptor Margot Hudig-Heldring) and two children. Later he worked in Huizen and passed away in Bussum. He made sculptures and painting both abstract and more realistic work of animals (horses, insects a.o.), flowers and military. A number of his monumental sculptures and statues were given an important destination in the Netherlands. - About the artist
Jan Engelchor (1920, Amsterdam – 1976, Bussum) was a Dutch painter and sculptor, who was active in Amsterdam and in Huizen. He was educated at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) Amsterdam. In 1946, he was awarded the Cohen Gosschalk Prize. In 1947, he married the sculptor Margot Hudig-Heldring. Engelchor practiced various genres: figures, military, horses, insects. He also created abstract works. A number of his monumental sculptures and statues were given an important destination in the Netherlands.
