About the artwork
The arms of this 18K red gold Victorian cross pendant from 1840 are shaped after a stylized diamond pointing with their culet to the centre. From their crown-side, a Baroque style shell radiates in rays into lush curls as the end ornament. Resembling a volume of a cross with its back the same as its front and suspending from an 18K yellow gold chain with a closure set with a strass stone, this jewel is a display of divine diligence for detail.

The Victorian era is known for its eclectic revival and interpretation of historic styles and the introduction of cross-cultural influences from themiddle east and Asia in furniture, fittings, and Interior decoration. Victorian design is widely viewed as having indulged in a regrettable excess of ornament. The Arts and Crafts movement, the aesthetic movement, Anglo-Japanese style, and Art Nouveaustyle have their beginnings in the late Victorian era.
