    BOERDERIJ TE STAPHORST 1913 Olieverf op doek 30 x 50 cm. Gesigneerd: rechts onder Herkomst: Particuliere collectie, Nederland; H.P. Bremmer collectie. In Staphorst, waar Koster sinds 1900 bijna jaarlijks voor langere perioden werkte, schilderde zij onderwerpen aan huis. Mensen in klederdracht, interieurs en boerderijen. Staphorst veroverde een plaatsje in haar hart. Als ze later na jaren weer eens terugkomt in Staphorst, schrijft ze ‘Eindelijk kwamen we in Staphorst en mijn oude hart ging op een holletje, eerst ging ik bij Eultien Klein, ze herkende me direct, heeft al grote kinders, en vertelde me dat Beppe zes jaar geleden gestorven is. Ook dat Jan zijn kinderen nu allen getrouwd zijn en hij alleen woont.’

  • About the artist

    Johanna (Jo) Koster was a Dutch painter. In 1885, she went to the Rijksnormaalschool voor Tekenonderwijs in Amsterdam and in 1885 to the Academie in Rotterdam. In 1894, she travelled to Paris and later to Brussels, where she painted in the Neo-Impressionist and Pointillist style. She was a member of the artist associations Arti et Amicitiae, Pulchri Studio, Vereeniging Sint Lucas and Vereeniging van Beeldende Kunstenaars ‘De Rotterdammers’. Later in her life, she was active in Italy, France, Spain and Germany. Her work is to be found in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum.
