- About the artist
After graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Art in Amsterdam, Annette worked as an independent artist. During trips to Italy and Brazil, she took photographs, often unposed, which became the basis for her artwork.
Annette has an eye for the beauty of the ordinary. She captures it with her lens, prints the photo on canvas, and embroiders the work to emphasize its beauty. This editing accentuates specific details that are already present and adds something that wasn't there before.
This approach not only adds physical texture and depth to the otherwise flat surface but also creates a layered effect that is both figurative and tactile. The embroidery transforms and gives new meaning to the artwork. It is often executed in such a way that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish where thread has been used and where not, creating the impression of painting with needle and thread.
Annette's work is regularly exhibited at exhibitions and art fairs, including KunstRAI and the Affordable Art Fair in Amsterdam and Brussels, and at the Cobra Museum of Modern Art in Amstelveen.
One of her works, titled “The Pool,” was featured in the 2023 Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art in London.
