- About the artist
Hans Bayens was a Dutch sculptor, book designer and painter. He was born in Belgium, but was the child of two Dutch parents. After his school in Amsterdam, he studied at the Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (Antwerp) between 1946 and 1949. He was a pupil of Isodore Opsomer. After having worked in Paris, he moved in 1952 to Amsterdam.
Bayens painted in an impressionistic style. He made paintings of Willem Drees, Wim Kan and Maurits van Loon and others. As a sculptor he made bronzes from Dutch authors like Mutatuli and Theo Thijssen. He is considered as a member of the Onafhankelijk Realisme (independant realism).
