  • About the artist

    Terry O’Neill (1938), full name Terence Patrick O’Neill, is an English photographer. He began his career working in a photographic unit for an airline at London's Heathrow Airport. Thereafter he found employment on Fleet Street with The Daily Sketch in 1959. His reputation grew during the 1960s.

    For more than 50 years, he has photographed rock stars and presidents, royals and movie stars, at work, at play, in private. He pioneered backstage reportage photography with the likes of Frank Sinatra, David Bowie, Sir Elton John and Chuck Berry and his work comprises a vital chronicle of rock and roll history.

    Terry O'Neill has worked for the most prestigious magazines in the world including Time, Newsweek, Stern, Bunte, Figaro, The Sunday Times, Vanity Fair, People, Parade, Vogue and many others. He had a longtime relationship with Faye Dunaway. Terry was married to her from 1983 to 1986. At present he is married to Laraine Ashton, a former model agency executive.

    He had numerous exhibitions and in 2011 he receive the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary medal for his significant contribution to the art of photography.

    O’Neill’s work can be found in such museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

    Terry O'Neill passed away in November 2019.
