- About the artist
Peter van Poppel was born in 1945 and is one of the most important new realists of the Netherlands. He went to the School for Graphics Subjects in Utrecht.
His paintings contain very sweet and mysterious figures. They look like children with a big heads and their rose tint. His work looks modern, but you can see the influences of old masters such as Carel Farbritius and Rembrandt van Rijn. The subjects of van Poppel looks like everyday scenes, but when you take a closer look it exceeds reality. He works very detail oriented. In his work there is a subtle sense of humor.
