  • About the artist

Michael Lauterjung (Stuttgart, 1959) paints everyday objects against an abstract background in an extremely realistic way. Recurring subjects are vegetables, fruits and chess pawns. By playing with the shadows and making them extra thick, a so-called trompe l'oeil effect is created. The objects seem to be detached from their surroundings and sometimes even to float.

This is further enhanced by the clear contours; as if the artist has pasted the 'real' objects on the painted canvas. Lauterjung's work is represented by many galleries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
