- About the artist
Theo Voorzaat, born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on March 2, 1938 is a Dutch painter. He works and lives in Dreischor, in the province of Zeeland, The Netherlands. His work is being attributed to modern realism.
Voorzaat is a highly talented artist and is mainly self-taught. Subjects of his paintings are contemporary buildings, in decay in a distant looking world. Often, out-of-place objects have a recurring role in his paintings. The way he plays with light he gives his often pessimistic images a positive approach. Voorzaat’s paintings are hyper-realistic and painted with great precision. Though ironically, he never understood the public admiration he received for his work.
Having traveled throughout Europe, exploring the picturesque relics of Western civilization, Voorzaat is fascinated by the process of natural decay. It has never been Voorzaat’s intention to play the role of prophet of doom. He enjoys his profession as painter far too much for that. Though this might seem contrary to his paintings, his inner child rules and he is not distracted by his adult rationale.
Voorzaat’s work is represented by Galerie Lieve Hemel in Amsterdam. Voorzaat is featured in many public and private collections including the permanent collection of the Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum in Domburg.
