  • About the artist
Giacomo Santiago Rogado studied at the Lucerne School of Art and Design from 2002 to 2005. In 2007 he received the Swiss Federal Prize for Art and in 2009 the Manor Art Prize of Central Switzerland. In 2013, he was awarded the recognition prize of the city of Lucerne.

Giacomo Santiago Rogado's work has been shown in numerous exhibitions, including the Aargauer Kunsthaus Aarau, the Kunsthaus Baselland, the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen and the Kunstmuseum Luzern.

Patience and composure are essential features of Rogado's multifaceted pictorial worlds. Whether it is the pensive gaze of the portrayed figures, the visually vibrant surfaces of the abstract pictorial findings or the infinite cloudscapes here and there - Rogado plays a subtle game with different pictorial traditions. From romantic ideas of surrealistic dream images to the constructive form language of the fifties and its outgrowth in Op Art, Giacomo Santiago Rogado makes use of the most diverse styles. This is not, however, in the sense of quoting, but rather in the sense of exploring the possibilities of painting itself. In the tradition of the genre, Rogado's works can be understood as windows to another world, which, however, far from laying any claim to truth, is exclusively the work of our imagination. Similar to our imaginations, seemingly different things meet. Figuration and abstraction lead a symbiotic coexistence in Rogado's paintings.

By combining and bringing together the most diverse worlds of form and image, Giacomo Santiago Rogado creates a very personal artistic cosmos in which he seems to have set himself the goal of experiencing the properties and functions of the image through painting.
