About the Artist

Charles Joseph Watelet was a Belgian painter who was born in 1867, he died in 1954. Watelet studied at the art academy in Brussels, where he was apprenticed to the celebrated society painter Alfred Stevens. Thereafter he was a portrait painter of the upper class in Brussels for ten years, specialising in women. He also painted nudes, bathing or in a boudoir. Watelet’s work appealed to his contemporaries, praising its elegance, impressionist brush stroke and subtle colours.
