Lux Buurman is a Dutch painter and teacher, born in Voorburg in 1948. She went to the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Fine Arts) and the Vrije Academie, The Hague. However she mostly learned her painting techniques from painter Ab van Overdam, whom she later married. Buurman prefers to paint using layers of oil paint, a laborious technique. She specialises in still lives, trompe l’óeils and commissioned portraits. Her subjects are found close to home; she specialises in still lives of flowers, shells, fruits, plants and animals. Trompe-l’oeil (French for ‘deceive the eye’) is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions. Buurman became a member of the artist association Pulchri Studio, The Hague in 1975. Her works are to be found in several collections such as the ING and private collections. She lives and works in Wassenaar.
