About the Artist

Eugène Robert Poughéon (18 July 1886 – 1 March 1955) was a French artist, painter, illus-trator and museum curator. Poughéon was born in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Arts Décoratifs with Charles Lameire. In 1914 Poughéon was hono-red with the Prix de Rome. Poughéon stayed at the Villa de Medici in Rome for a while, where he was appointed a director in 1942. Since 1911 he has been exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français. There he was honored with a silver medal in 1927 and a gold one in 1929. He is a painter of historic work, persons, murals, nudes and landscapes. Poughéon also illustrated books and banknotes.
