  • About the artist

Tjitske Hettinga Tromp was a Dutch painter, watercolorist, draftsman, graphic artist and lithographer. She was born in Groningen (the Netherlands) and died in 1962 in Zwolle. She studied at the Akademie van beeldende kunsten (Den Haag). Tjitske was a pupil of Hendricus Petrus Bremmer.

Hettinga Tromp learned to paint from Hendrik Bremmer. Her main subjects were still lifes, church interiors and tranquil architectural views. Light played an important role in her work: diffused, with thin skies, without heavy shadows.
