- About the artist
Peter Keizer (1961) is a Dutch painter and sculptor known for his expressive visual language and his unmistakable use of thick, tactile oil paint. His work is characterized by a vibrant palette and an almost physical engagement with the material, where paint is not merely a medium but an active presence on the canvas.
Keizer’s subjects are drawn from the immediacy of everyday life—trees, flowers, and animals, particularly dogs—yet he transforms these familiar motifs into energetic, emotionally charged compositions. Rather than striving for realism, he captures the essence and vitality of his subjects, often imbuing them with a palpable sense of movement and spontaneity.
A recurring theme in his oeuvre is a celebration of life, a “joie de vivre” that radiates through bold color choices and dynamic brushwork. His sculptural work reflects a similar sensibility, translating this vitality into three-dimensional form.
Keizer’s practice balances observation with intuition, resulting in works that feel both grounded and exuberant. Through his distinctive style, he invites the viewer to experience the world not as it is, but as it feels—alive, immediate, and full of energy.
