  • About the artwork

  • About the artist

Albert Heijdens was trained as a theater maker and specialized in making music theatre. Design always occupies an important place in his productions. In the visual field he was taught by various artists and since 1991 he has mainly been involved in visual arts.

By using and experimenting with materials such as zinc, lead, tin, iron, brass, wax, lacquer and paper, we can classify Albert among the material painters. The often unframed edges of his paintings give the impression of infinity and accentuate the layers in his work. His urge to escape from the flat surface is expressed in the relief-like skin and representations. In his work he often makes use of musical notation, usually illegible texts and spontaneously arising symbols. There are also stylized figures to be discovered. His theatrical background is clearly reflected in his work and especially in his costume-shaped objects.

At the moment, he is clearly looking for stillness and austerity in his work, while retaining expressiveness. He elaborates on the theme of books in various shapes and sizes, books in combination with objects, small metal handbooks and wall books.

He lives and works in the French Pyrenees for a large part of the year. The color and shapes of the rock are reflected in his work. We also see his theatre, music and dance background. Literature, poems and human development are also important sources of inspiration.

As he puts it himself: I see myself as a facilitator of the process of becoming. The painting or object wants to create itself. The more open my attitude, the more information comes in. I want to surprise myself.

He exhibited his work in: Amsterdam-Galerie Novanta Nova, Feel Galerie, Art Fusion Galerie, Laren Galerie Bianca Landgraaf, De Lier-Vellekoop and Vellekoop, Groningen-Ans Art, Depot Jan Steen, Galerie Loes Koster. Maastricht- gallery Trace, De Pol- Expostie Beeldschoon,

Barcelona Gallery Tuset, Paris GNG Gallery. Art fairs in Amsterdam, Maastricht, Antwerp and Brussels, Galerie Coup de main d'or- France

His work is included in the art collections of: Philips Eindhoven, Forbo linoleum Krommenie and the Province of Noord-Holland
