- About the artworkEen zeer imposant werk van de Engelse fijnschilder Michael John Hunt.

Provenance Particuliere collectie - About the artist
Michael John Hunt, born in England in 1941, is a self-taught English figurative painter and etcher, known for his topographical works, landscapes and atmospheric interiors. His oeuvre is characterised by a refined technique and a profound understanding of light and shadow.
Artistic Development
Although Hunt has no formal art training, he has developed a unique style through the application of layered acrylic paint and glaze. This technique allows him to achieve a remarkable depth and luminosity in his paintings, giving his works an almost photographic quality.
Theme and Style
Hunt's paintings often focus on intimate interiors, both opulent and rustic, filled with familiar objects such as empty chairs, dramatically illuminated by a light source from a window or doorway. These scenes evoke a sense of stillness and contemplation, similar to the works of the Dutch masters, where surfaces are immaculate and realistic lighting effects such as shadows and reflections emphasise the artist's technical skill.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Hunt's work is on permanent display at The Hunt Gallery in Sandwich, Kent, England. He has also exhibited at the American Museum in the UK and is an authorised licensee of the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum in Delaware, USA, where he is currently working on a collection of early American interiors based on the museum's period room settings. A selection of these paintings were exhibited at the Society of Fellows Gallery in Winterthur in 2012.
His work is held in many collections worldwide, both public and private, and he remains a prominent figure in the contemporary figurative art scene.
Michael John Hunt's ability to capture the essence of a space and invite the viewer to introspect makes his work timeless and universally appealing.
