- About the artworkIn this landscape, the early beginning of Cross’ pointillism is seen in the sky and some parts of the landscape. Other parts are still painted in the realistic manner he was used to, but already with the bright colours of the impressionists.

Henri-Edmond Cross (Delacroix) was born in 1856 in Douai, France. His work can be seen as belonging to the later years of Neo-Impressionism. When he moved to Saint-Clair, near Saint-Tropez. It was in this place he turned to pure landscape painting in oil paint and watercolours, frequently working with a bright and saturated colour palette. Cross passed away in 1910, while still living in Saint-Clair.
