  • About the artist
Lambertus Hendrik (Bertus) Sondaar was a Dutch sculptor from Amsterdam. He attended the School of Applied Arts Quellinus in Amsterdam where he was tutored by Jan Bronner. He left in 1930 to live in Paris with his former classmate Ton Dobbelman, whom he married that same year. After being tutored by French sculptor Charles Despiau, Sondaar went back to Amsterdam where he would create sculptures of famous (Dutch) people such as Queen Juliana, Schubert and Louis Couperus. His work can be classified as modern classicist.
