  • About the artist

    Marcel Wanders (Boxtel, 1963) is international renowned for his product, furniture and interior designs, and art direction. He graduated cum laude from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (now ArtEZ) in Arnhem in 1988 after being expelled from the Eindhoven Design Academy. In 1995 he openend his studio in Amsterdam, quickly coming to worldwide attention in 1996 for his Knotted Chair, in which a high tech material is combined with a low-tech macramé technique. Since 2001 Wanders has also worked as an art director for Moooi, the successful interior label of which he is co-owner. Today his dreamlike designs, referencing to well-known styles from the past, have particularly succes abroad and he works for internationally renowned brands such as Alessi, Moroso, KLM, Swarovski, Marks & Spencer, Puma, Kartell. In addition Wanders has worked on interior projects such as the VIP room of the Dutch pavilion at the World Fair in Hannover (2000), the Mondrian Hotel Miami (2008) and the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht Hotel (2012).
