About the Artist

Ad Blok van der Velden was a Dutch painter born in Dordrecht on 12 April 1913, he died on 22 May 1980. He was one of the best-known 20th-century painters of Texel. He studied at the art academy in Rotterdam. In 1934 he went to Texel for the first time, where he was enchanted by the beautiful and virgin landscape. In 1940 he settled permanently on the West Frisian Island. The authentic polder landscape with its farms, beaches and dunes were an important source of inspiration in his colourful and impressionist paintings. From 1971, he frequently lived in France and thereafter in Italië, where he died in 1980.
