- About the artworkThe shape of this commode totally corresponds with the ‘mode Française’ of the day in Dutch cabinetmaking in the 1760’s: curved front and sides on high curved legs and two drawers without a sepparating style. The top is covered with a slate of Rouge Royale marble. The legs are, both to embellish and to protect the corners, decorated with fittings and sabots of gilt bronze. The drawers are fitted with knobs and a scutcheon in gilt bronze. The curved shape of sides and front is enhanced by the reverse diamond veneer.
