  • About the artwork
A gentle presence uncovering the calm within strength.“I use different colour combinations create visual impacts and surprises, analogous to events in life; they don’t all have to be high-contrast fireworks and be exciting to have meaning, some are definitely more muted and monochromatic.”

  • About the artist

Magdalena Morey (born 1974 in Lublin, Poland) is a contemporary Polish-born artist known for her vibrant, multi-layered mixed media paintings that bridge the gap between figurative and abstract art. Currently based in Asturias, she creates works that explore themes of movement, energy, and the emotional connections between people and their environments.

Classically trained in both textiles and painting, Morey studied at the C.K. Norwid Art College in Lublin before earning a Master’s degree in Painting from the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in 2000. Her artistic practice combines painting, collage, and mixed media techniques to build richly textured surfaces filled with atmosphere and emotional depth.

After living and working in England and Switzerland, Morey eventually settled in northern Spain, where the dramatic landscapes of Asturias became an ongoing source of inspiration. Her works often suggest fleeting human presence, shifting landscapes, or emotional states rather than literal scenes, allowing viewers to form their own interpretations and connections. Through expressive brushwork, layered compositions, and nuanced color palettes, she creates paintings that feel both spontaneous and contemplative.

Morey’s work explores transformation, vulnerability, and interconnectedness, balancing structure with freedom and stillness with motion. Represented by several international galleries, her paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Europe and internationally, and are held in private collections around the world.
