About the Artist

Mattheus Josephus (Thé) Lau was a Dutch painter of the Bergense School. He also designed jewellery and made litho’s and leaded lights. He is the grandfather of the musician Thé Lau. A lot of his work is now to be found in private collections. He was interested in fresco techniques and in 1937 started making miniatures. He has painted the Via Crucis in the church of Heiloo. He created his most famous work between 1919 and 1948; dune landscapes, still lifes and portraits.
