  • About the artist

Graham Dean is a British painter, born in Birkenhead in 1951. He attended the Laird School of Art in 1968 and between 1970 and 1973 he studied at Bristol Polytechnic, Faculty of Art and Design. In 1992 he was honoured with the Senior Abbey Award in Rome and in 2003 he received the International Fellowship Award at the Vermont Studio Centre in the USA. He lives and works in Brighton (England) and Umbria (Italy). He has had over 50 solo shows and several hundred mixed exhibitions since 1974. His paintings are in numerous public and private collections. Dean uses the body in his work to express emotions and psychological states. He employs a technique that he calls "reverse archaeology", transforming the conventional use of watercolour painting.
