Jean Pierre Cassigneul was a painter, lithographer and illustrator. He is noted for his beautiful portraits of young women with fashionable hats. He was profoundly influenced by expressionist painter Kees van Dongen. Cassigneul was born in Paris in 1935 and educated at the Académie Charpentier. He was apprenticed to Jean Souverbie who was headmaster at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1956 to 1960 Cassigneul was instructed by Chapalain-Midy and worked in his studio. His work was many times exhibited in Japan, after meeting the art dealer Kiyoshi Tamenaga. In 1968 Wally Findley became his dealer in the USA. Jean Pierre Cassigneul exhibited in Europe, Japan and the USA during the 1970s.
