About the ArtistGeorge van der Wagt was born in Amsterdam on the 4th of April, 1921. He was known as a Dutch monumental artist. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Rotterdam and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He was married to paintress Isa van der Zee.
Van der Wacht created monuments for many schools and companies such as Philips and the Dutch Bank. He worked in both figurative and abstract styles, although his figurative work later grew to be more abstract as well. In the last few years of his life Van der Wagt solely concentrated on painting, until he passed away in 2007.
